How to enroll
Choosing your benefits is easy, whether you’re a newly eligible Mountaineer, you’ve experienced a qualifying life event, or it’s the annual Open Enrollment. Read on to know when to make your choices and why it’s important to review your benefits each year.
There are three opportunities to choose your benefits as a Mountaineer:
1. Open Enrollment
All Mountaineers can review/change current elections during Open Enrollment.
Open Enrollment takes place each fall.
Elections take effect January 1 of the following year.
2. Qualifying life event
You can only make changes to your benefits outside of Open Enrollment if you have a qualifying life event.
Qualifying life events include marriage, birth, divorce, or loss/gain of coverage outside of Iron Mountain.
You must make changes within 30 days of the event or wait until the next Open Enrollment or qualifying life event.
Changes take effect on the date of the qualifying life event.
3. Newly benefits eligible
New Mountaineers or Mountaineers whose change of employment status qualifies them for benefits eligibility can enroll throughout the year.
You must enroll within 30 days of your hire or benefits eligibility date.
Elections take effect on your hire date or benefits eligibility date.
4. When to choose your supplemental benefits
You can also choose supplemental benefits for your health, financial wellbeing, and security.
Enrollment periods for these supplemental benefits are shown below.

Do I need to take action?
Many things can change during a year. It’s important to review your benefit options annually to ensure they still meet your needs.
The following actions are required during Open Enrollment, even if you don’t want to make changes. You must:
Actively update your tobacco and spousal attestations each year during Open Enrollment. If you are a tobacco user, participate in tobacco cessation or any applicable lifestyle coaching sessions before March 31 of the following year and you will have your surcharge removed going forward. Contact A1A at 888-216-8573 to learn more or contact Aetna Lifestyle Coaching directly at 866-533-1410 to get started.
Consider your one-time opportunity during Open Enrollment to increase your life insurance up to 1x your annual base salary, up to the guaranteed issue amount of $300,000.
Don’t miss out! If you enroll in the Enhanced HDHP or Basic HDHP medical plan you can also open a Health Savings Account (HSA). If you enroll in the Enhanced HDHP, you are eligible to receive Iron Mountain’s contribution to your HSA however you must make an active election to receive the contribution and to contribute yourself. HSA contribution elections do not roll over year to year.
